Professionals in the solar power industry are finally
beginning
to come forward with opinion about Chinese manufactured solar modules.
It's not all that politically correct these days to criticize
Chinese products, maybe because they carry loans on so much of the US
economy and build nearly everything we buy. The buzz is that
some
Chinese solar panels use inferior silicon, which cracks and degrades
quickly compared with other brands. Their manufacturing and
power
rating tolerances are poor and their power output may drop within a
short time after installation. "You get what you pay for."
Sounds like something my Grandpa might have said, and he
would
have been right. Part of the appeal of solar power is the
long
life of the modules, so it seems like a shot in the foot to buy cheap
panels that don't last.
(09-06-2009) Wow, it's been a
crazy summer for me. Death of family members, lots of travel
and
unpleasant things to be taken care of. Many thanks to my great
customers who have been so kind, understanding and patient as I've had
to conduct business while away from my office. Website
construction goals and updates are way behind schedule, but life goes
on.

I guess I'm not that embarrassed to admit that a couple of
years
ago I didn't know what a blog was. I'm not that keen on
inviting
newly coined words to my vocabulary when there are plenty of
serviceable substitutes already in existence. So "blog"
simply
isn't a word that I need that much, particularly since I seem to find
plenty of other activities to fill the hours of my day instead of
reading the limitless volume of crackpot opinion that seems to abound
on the internet. But life has a strange way of reminding us
to be
flexible in our viewpoints, and here I am writing the first installment
of what will most likely be considered a BLOG page, or crackpot opinion
by someone's standard. Please forgive me if this is the last
time I use the word "blog".
The point of this page is to
create a somewhat dynamic space to explore the changing world of home
energy production in it's various forms, and particularly how it
pertains to those of us who choose an off-grid lifestyle for reasons
other than political correctness. I have no idea how this
thread
will evolve, but I hope you find it sufficiently interesting to justify
the effort. If you have pertinent comments or information,
please
feel free to submit them in an email. I reserve the right to
print anything I receive in whole or in part, but I won't publish your
real name or email address without permission. Thanks for
stopping by.
