Water Pumping!
Sometimes
life reminds us of which things are really
important. Here in the United States, the vast majority of
people
go through each day with little or no thought about their water supply.
When you make the decision to go "off grid" that usually also
means that there will be no public water supply for your home.
Unless you are one of the lucky few with a natural,
gravity-fed
source, pumping water becomes part of the picture. Living
with a
finite energy source means that it is important to be efficient with
your power, and that might require some creativity. With that
in
mind, water pumping often becomes part of the overall design of an
off-grid system. Happily, technology provides us with a lot
of
solutions that are well-suited for our off-grid needs.
The
solution to your water pumping need is very much dependent on the
specifics of your water supply and the conditions under which the water
is used. There are a number of common questions that need to
be
answered before the proper equipment can be chosen. Click HERE to see the
questions.
Honestly,
designing a water pump system can be easy, or it can be tricky
sometimes
because I have to work strictly from the information you provide.
There are a lot of factors to consider, and I never get to
see
the site personally. I will be happy to assist you in working
through the process of choosing a pump, but ultimately the choice is
yours. If too many questions remain unanswered, it may be
best to
get a pump specialist on the scene. Once the well
specifications
and flow/pressure requirements can be firmly established, we're on
solid ground. As for providing power for
the pump, that is much easier, and I'll be certain to come up with a
solution for you.
I offer a number of
pre-packaged pump systems
for solar-direct water supplies. These packages have balanced
components and a discounted price. Check HERE to see if
one of these packages suits your application.
SUBMERSIBLE
PUMPS

7993000, Shurflo
9300
Submersible Pump ..... $680.00
The
9300 is a good choice for remote, low volume applications powered
direct from a solar array or from batteries. It is a
light-duty pump, but easily
field-serviceable, which is a bonus in remote locations. Replacement
motors are available for $195.00 (7993054) and the valve kit is $36.00
(7958325). Some people order spares when they buy their pump.

the 9300 detail page.
Lorentz
is a German company that builds a wide variety of high quality, high
efficiency submersible and surface pumps that are specifically designed
for solar and off-grid use. If you need to pump water with an
absolute minimum of energy, Lorentz is likely to have a model that will
do the job.

Lorentz detail page with models and prices.
Grundfos
pumps offer amazing quality and versatility. The SQ Flex
models
can be powered from a wide variety of energy sources, even several
sources connected redundantly. Ideal for situations requiring
efficient power usage.
