Sometimes life reminds us of which things are really important.  Here in the United States, the vast majority of people go through each day with little or no thought about their water supply.  When you make the decision to go "off grid" that usually also means that there will be no public water supply for your home.  Unless you are one of the lucky few with a natural, gravity-fed source, pumping water becomes part of the picture.  Living with a finite energy source means that it is important to be efficient with your power, and that might require some creativity.  With that in mind, water pumping often becomes part of the overall design of an off-grid system.  Happily, technology provides us with a lot of solutions that are well-suited for our off-grid needs.

Honestly, designing a water pump system can be easy, or it can be tricky sometimes because I have to work strictly from the information you provide.  There are a lot of factors to consider, and I never get to see the site personally.  I will be happy to assist you in working through the process of choosing a pump, but ultimately the choice is yours.  If too many questions remain unanswered, it may be best to get a pump specialist on the scene.  Once the well specifications and flow/pressure requirements can be firmly established, we're on solid ground.   As for providing power for the pump, that is much easier, and I'll be certain to come up with a solution for you.

7993000, Shurflo 9300 Submersible Pump ..... $680.00


The 9300 is a good choice for remote, low volume applications powered direct from a solar array or from batteries.  It is a light-duty pump, but easily field-serviceable, which is a bonus in remote locations. Replacement motors are available for $195.00 (7993054) and the valve kit is $36.00 (7958325).  Some people order spares when they buy their pump.
