Modified-Sinewave power inverters should more correctly be identified as "modified squarewave" because the waveform more closely resembles the rough edges of a square wave than the smooth and even shape of a sinewave. This rough waveform contains high voltage transients and harmonics that can damage power supplies and control circuits, and some devices will not function at all when connected to a mod-wave inverter.
