High Volume DC Surface Pumps

Surface Pumps are designed for use in protected environments where there is no possibility of freezing. Surface pumps have a limited capability of drawing water from below, and so they should be used in situations where the water source is at the same elevation as the pump, or only slightly below. In residential applications, it is often used as a "booster pump" to move water from a cistern into a pressure tank for household use. DC pumps generally offer much higher energy efficiency compared to AC pumps, and better reliability since an inverter isn't required for operation. Most high-volume DC pumps are of the centrifugal type. Although more expensive than some other pumps, they provide better performance than the usual rotary-vane or diaphragm pumps, and reduced maintenance compared to piston pumps. Centrifugal pumps are also much more tolerant of particulates in the water, usually requiring no filtration on the pump inlet.
