Propane Ranges

A propane range is usually a necessary choice for off-grid households because an electric cooking range uses far too much electricity. Unfortunately, most gas ranges available in appliance stores have an electric "glow bar" that lights the oven burner. It's an electric heating element that often consumes about 400 watts and is operational whenever the oven is turned on. This is incredibly wasteful and unnecessary, but the glow-bar concept is becoming standardized for gas ranges in the US and it's very difficult to find an alternative.

Canada to the rescue! Unique Off-Grid is a Canadian company that builds appliances specifically for off-grid use, and Unique gas ranges require no electrical connection. The burners have spark ignition like other brands, but the spark is provided by a simple 9-volt battery! There is no connection to electricity needed, and the oven doesn't have a glow-bar. A spark-igniter is used to light a pilot light for the oven burner. The pilot stays lit always, unless you extinguish it. The top burners don't use a standing pilot, but spark-light for each use. You can even light all of the burners (including the oven pilot) with a match or lighter if you wish. Remember when products were simpler and more reliable? That's the plan behind Unique gas ranges. No gadgets and frills, just quality construction that works when you need it.

Like many other dealers, we used to sell Peerless Premier gas ranges. But the quality of Peerless ranges has gradually deteriorated. We even had reports of the cooktop bending under the weight of a large soup pot! In short, Peerless ranges are so flimsy that they often arrive damaged due to cheap construction and poor packaging, and they just don't meet our quality standards. 

That's why we're so pleased to offer the sturdy line of gas ranges from Unique. Unique gas ranges feature robust sheet metal construction, durable porcelain finish, heavy duty cast iron cooktop grate, and sealed burners on all models. Unique ranges have the "feel" of a commercial-grade stove. They are well packaged for shipping, and while freight damage is always a possibility, it is unlikely. All ranges are set for propane use from the factory, but are convertible to natural gas operation.
